You may know that as of December ’19 I’ve dramatically minimized my social media use. Except for messaging apps.
Here’s what I’ve learnt:
- This saves me 3-6 hours a week in time, and I honestly believe 6-12 hours in mind-space (ability for focused attention).
- I don’t crave my smartphone – this is a dramatic change
- When I don’t know something that someone posted on their social account, no one ever asks me “hey, didn’t you see my Insta post?”, I think because they know how stupid that sounds.
- My interpersonal conversations have strongly improved for two reasons: 1, I don’t crave other social interaction. 2, I have the mind space to be attentive and follow-up on the information I gain.
- I have more free time now in the evenings – I read more: one book a month and that’s what I’ve wanted but didn’t make half of it last year
Concluding: Not for a second I think about going back to the old situation.
