As a kid I have learnt that new things are fun. You’d say great! – but there’s a downside.
It’s that I have a harder time finishing things than starting new things.
It leaves me with loose ends quite often. And I’ve greatly learnt ‘not to look’ at those loose ends, as a protective mechanism. That way it doesn’t hurt, because ’there’s no problem, right?!’…
That couch for the front yard that I’ve bought, but I need to buy a chain and screws and attach it to the house so it can’t be stolen.
That front yard-lamp I still need to fix after 3 years.
That messy attic.
That new podcast.
Half books I read.
That unanswered e-mail that I’m looking up to, to answer.
That finance.
Some people never have loose ends, wow, what a great life that would be…
Loose ends eat up a mini-space from your brain, every time you are confronted with one.
And in the end that mini space grows like a tumor.
What you can do to heal yourself from loose ends is planning, devotion of your time and intentional ‘doing’. Don’t leave loose ends in the first place.
And if you leave them, find the deeper behavior behind it. What’s the reason this is a loose end now?
Devote focused time to the end, so it won’t become a loose one.
It’s not a fun answer for people like me, but certainly is the effective one.
