Since I’ve heard someone say in an interview a couple of days ago “We distribute responsibility as low as possible”, this stuck with me.
Chains of command oftentimes are about obedience. Sticking to a role, job description, and clearly defined responsibilities, goals, specificities, and a fixed path to reach those. Doing what you’ve signed up for. We’ve set the path.
Most organizations suppress creativity by letting people do the job they signed up for. Unless you distribute responsibility as low as possible. We set the North, now you create the path.
The responsibility to “I have a great idea” then turns from
“Good for you, now do your job” into
“When are we going to do something with it?”
