As you might know, humans have 2 brains. The Emo brain (feeling) and the Ratio brain (thinking)
Emo brain: It’s early. I’m tired. This bed is chill.
Ratio brain: Early bird gets the worm.
Status quo: Stay in bed.
The Emo brain wins, most often.
Probably because the Emo brain only cares about now and only now, while the ratio brain cares about past, current, and future.
You need willpower to silence the Emo brain, and fact is: You don’t always have willpower when it’s 4:30AM.
Solution: Trick the Emo brain with the more serious Emo work. Tell yourself Emo Situation is going on.
Do that in the evening and commit yourself to behaving accordingly.
Emo brain: It’s early. I’m tired. This bed is chill.
Emo brain: I am under attack of invaders! (or equivalent: my dog is dying, there’s an earthquake, …)
Ratio brain: invaders are dangerous! I’m out of bed.
Hey, I’m out of bed.
Early bird gets the worm. Let’s get that worm.
